The Borscht Film Festival has sent out its call for submissions for the seventh edition of the famed festival that won the 2010 Miami New Times award for “Best Film Festival.”  If you are unfamiliar with Borscht, you can read about last year’s festival and even watch one of the film submissions.  The Borscht Film Festival features local Miami talent who were born in, raised in or inspired by the beautiful city of Miami and under the age of 30.

If you are interested in taking part in next year’s Borscht, which will happen in early 2011, then look no further.  Submissions are now being accepted for the three flagship programs:

    CCCV Stories
Borscht is looking for screenwriters and directors to take part in the CCCV stories.  Up to 6 screenwriters and directors will be selected to create their films – funded by Borscht – for the next Borscht Film Festival and possibly other film festivals.

Screenwriters are asked to submit their scripts that are less than 20 pages, the entry form a headshot and a 2000 word or 150 character essay describing the socio-political aspects that led to the Rick Ross / 50 Cent beef and the ensuing fallout in the Miami hip-hop community and the city at large.  You are encouraged to delve into into philosophical / existential implications.

Directors are asked to send a link to their director’s reel (or a completed narrative film), the entry form, a headshot and a picture that portrays Miami in 2112.
    DEADLINE: August 1, 2010

    Borscht’s Auris
Pronouced “Borschtasaurus,” the Borscht’s Auris project is looking for local musicians to be partnered with a nationally recognized independent film talent to create a short film inspired by the aesthetic of the music in Miami.

Musicians send a completed entry form, a music sample and choose either Uncle Al or Uncle Luke and explain why.
    DEADLINE: August 1, 2010

    Borscht Select Short Films
Up to 10 short (2-15 minute) films will be selected for this exhibition of Miami talent.  Filmmakers are also encouraged to submit their work for review. This category is open to filmmakers under the age of 30 who were born in, were raised in, live in or are inspired by South Florida.

Filmmakers should submit any film under 15 minutes as long as it deals with Miami or South Florida and an entry form.

    DEADLINE: February 1, 2011

The films will be judged by a blind panel, based on creativity, originality, professionalism, and how well the spirit of the Miami neighborhood is captured.
