Friday is upon us, and as per usual, everyone is wondering what to do this weekend.  Well, look no further, as Made in Miami Music highlights five fantastic events for you to check out!

    1.  Tonight Rev Miami is having their one year anniversary party at the White Room (1301 N. Miami Ave).  One of the premier local music websites in Miami, Rev Miami, promotes and informs about what is going on, and who to look out for.  The event stars at 10pm, and the lineup is as follows with a short description of each (from the Rev Miami website):
    •    Dyslexic Postcards – 90’s-ish Indie/Alt Rock
    •    Tristan Clopet & The Juice – Red Hot Chili Peppers funk with a splash of Jeff Buckley vocal style
    •    Astari Nite – indie flavored gothic inspired rock music
    •    Andrew Sansac – pop and funk rock music
    •    Hoosha – traditional styled rock and blues music
    •    Radioboxer – poppy electronic rock
    •    The Morning Flesh Project – instrumental progressive

    2. This weekend at the Miami Beach Cinematheque (512 Espanola Way), you can check out the 2010 Academy Awards nominees for Short Films.  Each night (Friday through Sunday), there are two different sets of films, the animated nominees at 7pm and the live action nominees at 9pm.  Each showing is only $10.

    3. For those interested in being a professional soccer star, sign up on the Miami FC website to attend their open tryouts on Saturday and Sunday morning.  The tryouts last from 9am until 2:30pm and take place at the Weston Regional Park (20200 Saddle Club Road).  Each year, at least one player was signed after attending the open tryout.  Last year, Zourab Tsiskaridze was the lucky one to receive a contract with Miami FC, and this year he will be playing for the Vancouver White Caps.

    4. Another event for those of you brave enough to cross the Broward line is happening Saturday afternoon at the Girls’ Club (117 NE 2nd Street in Ft. Lauderdale).  Presented by Artists in Action, local artist, Diane Arrieta, will be speaking from 1-3pm about her creative process and inspiration for her art.  The event is free and open to the public, and some of Diane Arrieta’s work will be available for sale.

    5. And for the event we have all been waiting for: head over to Sweat Records (5505 NE 2nd Ave) this Saturday night to find out who won the “Lightbulb” video contest and take in a special performance by the wonderful and super talented Rachel Goodrich.  Seating starts at 8pm, and the show begins at 8:30pm for this free event.  If you have ever been to Sweat Records before, you know that the venue is small, and will fill up very quickly, so be sure to get there early!  Drinks are on the contest winner next door at Churchill’s afterwards.
